Description

Townshend Maximum Supertweeter: Unlock Ultra-High Frequencies for Lifelike Hi-Fi AudioSince the late 1940s, when the term “hi-fi” was first applied to high-quality (high fidelity) sound reproduction systems, it has been conventionally accepted that the range of human hearing has an upper limit of about 15 to 20 kHz. The signal used to measure this response is an artificially-generated sine wave. However, modern research and long-term experience working with high-fidelity systems now question this firmly held belief. Harmonically rich, highly transient, real-life sounds extend well beyond 20 kHz; for example, the muted trumpet has a frequency response extending to beyond 100 kHz.Enter the Townshend Maximum Supertweeter—the ultimate upgrade for audiophiles seeking to extend their hi-fi speakers’ frequency response up to 90kHz (or even 100kHz in optimal setups). This compact, ribbon-based supertweeter doesn’t just push boundaries; it reveals the hidden harmonic detail that transforms ordinary listening into an immersive, natural experience. By capturing ultrasonic frequencies beyond human hearing, the Maximum Supertweeter enhances the entire audio spectrum, delivering clearer mids, tighter bass, and a wider soundstage without fatigue or harshness. Why Choose the Townshend Maximum Supertweeter for Your Hi-Fi System? In today’s high-resolution audio world, formats like SACD, DVD-Audio, and vinyl demand more than standard dome tweeters can provide. The Maximum Supertweeter steps in where your speakers roll off—starting at 6kHz and soaring to 90kHz—to reproduce the leading edge of transients with ultra-fast precision. Its lightweight 8-micron aluminum ribbon diaphragm, powered by super-strength neodymium magnets, outperforms heavy dome designs by eliminating time smear and revealing micro-details in every note.

  • Extended Frequency Response: Reaches up to 90kHz to unlock the “hypersonic effect,” making even CD and MP3 playback sound more analog-like and spacious.
  • Improved Transient Speed: The ribbon’s rapid response captures the attack of cymbals, strings, and percussion, enhancing realism across all instruments—even double bass gains unexpected clarity.
  • Full-Spectrum Enhancement: While focused on highs, it refines bass definition and midrange texture through better harmonic structure, creating a “miraculous” sense of ease and openness.
  • Versatile Compatibility: Integrates seamlessly with any high-quality speakers, from electrostatic panels like Quad ESLs to dynamic designs like PMC or Harbeth.

Audiophiles rave about the results: “The addition creates a more authentic ‘live’ experience, expanding the vertical soundstage like electrostatics”. In reviews, it’s praised for elevating systems without overpowering them, turning a solid hi-fi setup into a reference-level performer.Key Features of the Maximum SupertweeterCrafted in the UK by audio pioneer Max Townshend, this supertweeter embodies precision engineering in a sleek, miniature polished stainless steel (or satin black/matt silver) enclosure—just 3x5x10cm for discreet placement.

    My experience with Townshend Supertweeters

For me, the best placement was dead centre top, in line with my tweeters, and at a level depth, flush with the front baffle of the main speakers. With cables, connections and positioning all satisfied I spun my first critical tune and sat down for a listen.. ..Wow.. The sound had changed, and not a tiny change either; it was quite a discernible change.
The sound stage has grown, and the overall sound has matured, not just in the high frequency range but across the entire range! Vocals sound fuller and more correct, breaths on wind instruments were real, violin and strings in general sound as real as I’ve heard on my system to date, and the atmosphere on live recordings was more perceptible. Without exception, one of the best purchases I have made within Hi-Fi.

If I could compare Hi-Fi to food, it would be like adding a little bit of salt to the food; the flavour was always there, but the salt makes the flavours stand out more and adds a further dimension to the complete flavour. That’s what the Maximum Supertweeters have done for my set-up. Just as a well-set-up subwoofer adds to the fullness and roundness of the sound, the Supertweeter does the same, also tailors the level to your preference and system matching, and away you go.

Removing them after a few days has made the sound dull, flat and even two-dimensional. Was that really what I was calling decent quality Hi-Fi a couple of weeks ago?! What I had thought was a pretty good sound was now, without the Supertweeters, only mediocre in terms of sound quality. The difference was night and day. So obviously they were welcomed with open arms and reinstated into the system once I had established there was a “gap” without them.

On first play the smile returned to my face and I earnestly started to rummage through my music collection to get another playlist together. At which point I should also tell you that I found the effect was still there even at night time listening levels, but it does need a few decibels to be “magical”.
My 15W per channel Leak valve amps had no problems with the load on top of my speakers and when using full range “horn” speakers, these Supertweeters are simply a must have item and being quite minimal in operation they don’t seem to destroy the single driver sound of a good Lowther or Fostex, rather adding to it to give a fuller sound so long as you are careful with the volume level.

Discretion is the key, and blending without over exuberance or understatement is a must and worth taking the time to tune in and get right because when you do, the sound is simply stunning… …In conclusion, my humble opinion can only be used as a guide because we all hear differently and we all like a different sound.

The Townsend Maximum Supertweeters are well executed, well made, capable, very discrete super tweeters.

In my opinion in terms of user friendliness and sound they are the best passive super tweeters I have heard on the market today and the fact I have purchased a pair with my own hard earned money is testament to how good they are and the impact they have had on the sound of my system.

    townshend-maximum-supertweeter-pair

I am not going to get into the “snake oil” debate because they work within my hearing range and with all of the formats I use. Lossless on the MacBook, DAB, CD and analogue, vinyl and tape cassette all benefit from a fuller, more emotional sound.

Science is excellent, and will one day crack cancer and HIV, but it struggles to quantify certain things in life, and one of those things is emotion. I’m sure my hearing doesn’t extend much above 16kHz or so, and yet the super tweeters work and work well for me.

Transients, atmosphere, detail, attack, and sustain all benefit, as does timbre between instruments, sounds and especially vocals within the hearing range due to less distortion, less smearing and better definition at frequency extremes. Definitely not snake oil in my opinion..A worthwhile investment, and I will not be returning them or selling them on. Many Thanks, and keep the music musical..

    Patrick Thomas.

Townshend Audio Seismic Isolation Bars – Elevate Your Sound, Silence the Floor
Discover the ultimate upgrade for your audio system with the Townshend Audio Seismic Isolation Bars for Speakers and Subwoofers (starting at £750 per pair). Handcrafted in the UK, these innovative isolation bars sever the acoustic connection between your speakers and the floor, banishing unwanted vibrations that muddy your sound and disrupt your listening space. Whether you’re running floor-standing towers, stand-mounted monitors, or thunderous subwoofers, the Seismic Isolation Bars deliver a transformative clarity that lets your music breathe freely—priced for the serious audiophile who demands perfection.
Break the Acoustic Chain
Speakers don’t just project sound into the air—they transmit vibrations through the floor, creating a feedback loop that blurs bass, smears mids, and sends disturbances rippling through your home. The Seismic Isolation Bars put an end to this chaos. Designed to be used in pairs under any speaker type, each bar features a robust steel cross-piece with raised ends, supporting two Seismic Load Cells™. These highly compliant cells effectively “float” your speakers in the room, isolating them from floor-borne vibrations above 3Hz in all directions—up/down, left/right, and back/forth. The result? A cleaner, more focused soundstage that reveals every nuance of your music, untainted by structural interference.
Engineered for Sonic Freedom
The magic of the Seismic Isolation Bars lies in their Seismic Load Cells™, a Townshend innovation that combines extreme compliance with precision engineering. Suspended on these cells, your speakers become decoupled from the floor’s influence, allowing their drivers to move freely without the damping effect of surface integration. Bass tightens, mids gain transparency, and highs shimmer with detail—your system will sound more alive, more dynamic, and truer to the recording. Plus, by preventing vibration transmission downward, these bars double as a neighbor-friendly solution, keeping your audio bliss contained to your listening space.
Tailored to Your Setup
Versatility is key with the Seismic Isolation Bars, available in five weight-range capacities to suit any speaker or subwoofer:
  • Less than 5kg: Perfect for lightweight stand-mounts.
  • Up to 13.2kg: Ideal for medium-sized speakers (using four “B” Load Cells).
  • Up to 52.4kg: Great for larger floor-standers or subs (using four “C” Load Cells).
  • Up to 75kg+: Handles hefty systems with ease (using higher-capacity cells).
Each pair is meticulously tuned to support loads from featherweight monitors to massive subwoofers. For setups exceeding 30kg—or taller equipment over 1m with a high center of gravity—we recommend switching to Seismic Podiums for single-handed loads up to 75kg, ensuring stability and ease of use. When weights overlap in the capacity chart, opt for the stronger Load Cell for hassle-free setup and balanced performance—e.g., four “C” Load Cells support up to 52.4kg, including any base plate.
Simple Setup, Lasting Impact
Installation is straightforward: place a pair of Seismic Bars under your speaker or subwoofer, adjust for level, and let the Load Cells do the rest. Crafted from high-strength steel and finished with Townshend’s signature attention to detail, these bars are built to last, backed by a 5-year warranty. The subtle lift—just enough to decouple—won’t alter your room’s aesthetics, but the sonic improvement will be unmistakable. Audiophiles report “night-and-day” differences: tighter basslines, a wider soundstage, and a quieter background that lets every instrument shine.
Key Features:
  • Vibration Isolation: Blocks frequencies above 3Hz, severing floor connection.
  • Design: Steel cross-piece with two Seismic Load Cells™ per bar.
  • Weight Options: Five capacities from <5kg to over 75kg.
  • Applications: Floor-standing speakers, stand-mounts, and subwoofers.
  • Stability Note: Use Podiums for loads >30kg or tall equipment.
  • Warranty: 5 years of UK-made quality.
Why Choose Seismic Isolation Bars?
The Townshend Audio Seismic Isolation Bars aren’t just an accessory—they’re a revelation. By floating your speakers above the floor’s influence, they unlock a level of clarity and dynamism that rivals upgrades costing thousands more. Perfect for any system, from modest hi-fi setups to high-end rigs, they offer a practical, affordable way to elevate your sound while keeping vibrations at bay. At £750 per pair and up, this is precision engineering that pays dividends in every note.

Why Choose Isolda Speaker Cables?

Most speaker cables in the audio industry overlook the science of transmission line theory, resulting in micro-reflections that smear and veil the purity of sound. These reflections bounce between the source and speaker, muddying the music you love. The Isolda DCT Speaker Cable eliminates this issue through its unique geometry, closely matching the impedance of your amplifier and speakers. The result? A crystal-clear soundstage, lifelike 3d imaging, and seismic bass that transforms your listening experience.

Engineered for Audiophile Perfection

Crafted by hand in small batches, Townshend Isolda cables feature closely spaced, insulated flat copper conductors encased in a polyester braid sheath. This design makes them virtually immune to Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), ensuring a silent background that lets every note shine. Whether you’re listening to intricate classical compositions or powerful rock anthems, the Isolda delivers sound so natural, it feels like the artist is in the room.

Pure, Uncolored Sound

The Isolda DCT’s impedance-matched design (8 ohms) eliminates signal reflections, delivering music exactly as recorded. The Ear praises it as “one of the best speaker cables money can buy” for its neutral, fatigue-free sound.

Seismic Bass Power

Closely spaced EDCT copper ribbons produce deep, articulate bass with unrivaled solidity. townshendcable.com highlights “bass with a power that is truly seismic,” making every low note punchy and precise.

Stunning 3D Imaging

he cable’s low-inductance geometry creates a holographic soundstage, placing instruments with pinpoint accuracy. 6 Moons notes it “can convey a huge and realistic soundstage,” immersing you in the music.

Silent Backgrounds

Virtually immune to RFI due to its flat, closely spaced conductors, the Isolda DCT ensures pitch-black backgrounds.

With genuinely silent backgrounds,” letting subtle details shine.

Perfect Impedance Matching

With an 8-ohm impedance matching typical speakers, the Isolda DCT prevents distortion from mismatched cables. townshendcable.com explains this preserves square waves, ensuring “no ringing or distortion.”

Unequal Lengths, Same Sound

Unlike other cables, Isolda DCT Speaker Cables perform flawlessly even in unequal lengths. Thanks to their advanced impedance-matching technology, the sound from each speaker remains identical, regardless of cable length. This flexibility makes them ideal for any audio setup, from compact home systems to sprawling high-end rigs.

Explosive, Precise Dynamics

EDCT-treated conductors deliver lightning-fast transients and vast dynamics for thrilling playback. Every note snaps with energy from whispers to orchestral peaks, as HiFi Pig praises its “bass clarity and space,” emphasising high-current handling, ideal for dynamic genres like rock or classical. The Isolda DCT brings music to life with unmatched precision and power.
